DAVE School Graduates to work on Avatar !
James Cameron is set to direct Avatar, his first dramatic feature since the Oscar-winning blockbuster Titanic in 1997.

Avatar is an emotional journey of redemption and revolution. It is the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival. It thus again combines the elements of massive spectacle and intimate character that made Titanic the highest grossing film of all time; a title it still holds by over three quarters of a billion dollars.

6 DAVE School graduates have been working with Rob Powers and James Cameron for the past few months. They are: Motoki Nishii, Dean Lewandowski, Justin Stockton, April Warren, Pat Peterson and Jose Astacio. The team has been helping the director pre-visualize sequences for the film. This is expected to be THE summer movie for 2009! " I am thrilled that our graduates are finally getting the opportunity to go strait from graduation to awesome jobs on blockbuster films!" Said school founder Jeff Scheetz.

Wet Cement Productions adds 4 more Dave Graduates!
Wet Cement Productions came back to the Dave School campus to recruit for a new project and hired 4 graduates! David Seitzinger, Jeff Apczynski, Kim Candee and Chris Apczynski made the move to Minneapolis to work at Wet Cement. David, Kim and Chris are recent graduates from the Creepers animated short while Jeff finished made the transition from Rhythm and Hues. Block 4 instructor Lee Stringer added, "We vary the kinds of projects we do to hopefully strike a chord with employers. The similarity of style between I and Wet Cement's new project hit just at the right time".

Wet Cement hired several graduates in 2005 when they were in need of talent for the work on Auto’b’Good and Roach Approach. “It’s exciting to see so many of our graduates end up at a place like Wet Cement” commented William Vaughan, Dave School Instructor. “Working on animated children’s shows right out of school is quite an accomplishment.”

Galactica Concept Artist lectures at DAVE School!
Eric Chu, the Concept Designer and Illustrator for Battlestar Galactica came to talk to the DAVE School students last week. He gave an amazing presentation that showed how designs evolve through the stages of production and how concepts can translate to both real props and CG models. He brought an incredible slide show that used the design of the Galactica itself as a case study.
